2017: "FACES OF HOPE: STORIES OF IMMIGRATION". SOLO EXHIBITION AT EUROPSKI DOM. ZAGREB. CROATIA.

In 2017, Verónica Arís has presented the individual exhibition 'Faces of hope: stories of immigration'. This exhibition consists of 20 charcoal portraits of different imaginary characters who live the experience of immigration. Through them, Arís addresses different thoughts and emotions that belong to the psychological process of detachment pertaining to the experience of living abroad. Her purpose is to introduce the spectator to the personal experience of those who are now migrating for any reason to live in another country, with different culture and language. Today, immigration is a crucial issue in politics in terms of Human Rights while keeping a social control. Who, how many people from other countries and how we receive them are the issues that define our political position today. However, there are more reasons why we would open our horizons by living in another country. Indeed, the globalization is setting us in a scenario in which immigration is increasingly common. For example, studying and working abroad is today almost a must to prove our competence. Further, the issue of no longer belonging to a group or even to the origin is also increasing in psychological therapy. This way, it seems to be crucial a fair understanding regarding what this experience is about.
